your absence
Yungha Lee
your absence examines feelings of hurt and abandonment contradicting those of care and longing. Letters are written and hung throughout a structure that resembles my childhood bedroom, which has acted as a place of sanctuary and protection. In writing these letters and developing this space, I create an atmosphere of vulnerability that shares the complicated emotional space of abandonment in which I often find myself stuck.
This exploration and desire for healing has been depicted through the material choice of gauze tightly wrapped around the structure to physically resemble healing wounds. Working through these conflicting emotions has resulted in the desire to communicate these feelings to find solace in the idea of “me too” and a shared understanding with others.
