桃花源
(The Peach Blossom Spring)
Chuyu Xue
桃花源(The Peach Blossom Spring) is a Chinese ink painting work composed of shadows. I transform trash into visually striking artwork to reflect people’s consumption habits. It comments on unconscious consumerism and tries to express the circular economy of reusable objects.
The use of shadow reminds people of shadow puppetry shows, an ancient traditional Chinese form that tells mythology. Ink painting shows ancient Chinese spirituality and their desire to live in natural landscapes. What people are pursuing now is the opposite of the ancient people’s. I hope that this contrast will contribute to people’s morality in caring for the planet.
This work aims to discuss the reusable value of garbage and reminds people of accountability for protecting the environment.
