Shrinking Seas
Bryan Huck
This work is a story of water. Water is essential, it is the essence of life and carries memory. Depicted are topographical abstractions of three drying bodies of water due to climate change and human intervention: The Aral sea, Lake Chad and Great salt Lake. The process of this piece was completed by laser cutting acrylic and reassembling the cut parts into a canvas like structure. In choosing acrylic and machine fabrication as a medium, I formed a sense of dichotomy, contrasting the inorganic quality of acrylic and the natural quality of water. I created this work from an optimistic perspective, though technologies can have negative consequences, through innovation, we can overcome any challenge or obstacle.
